This is an urgent message that came from
Dottie Hiebing, METRO Executive Director:
Dear HLSP Member:
As you may be aware, the New York State Department of Budget has not
yet released funds for the Hospital Library Services Program (HLSP.)
Recently the Governor has proposed a Deficit Reduction Plan which
could reduce these funds even more.
These unreleased funds and planned cuts in the New York State Budget
could have a significant impact on hospital libraries this year and
for years to come. METRO regularly reaches out to leaders in Albany,
but as a constituent, you are in a better position to educate and
influence elected officials on this issue.
I am asking that all HLSP libraries contact their State Senators and
State Assembly Members. Please ask your elected officials to
immediately contact the State Department of Budget to encourage them
to release the funds that have been approved for the Hospital
Library Services Program. You need to act immediately as the State
Senate and Assembly are meeting in Albany next week.
For your convenience, below is a sample message that you can place
on your letterhead or send by email. Feel free to adapt it to your
individual situation. If you would like assistance in identifying
the elected officials from your district or for their contact
information, please contact Robert Schmidt at (212) 228-2320 ext.14
or rschmidt@metro.org,
It is very important that you take action now. Thank you very much.
